Ryan Kalamaya Interviewed by Aspen Daily News

Ryan Kalamaya spoke to the Aspen Daily News about people who fall between the cracks in the criminal justice system. In Colorado, a person qualifies for a free attorney, provided by the Office of the State Public Defender, only if that person falls below a certain income level. However, many people charged with crimes in the Roaring Fork Valley make too much money to qualify for a Public Defender, but not enough to hire an attorney. Unfortunately, many of those people have to represent themselves in the criminal justice system, even on serious felony charges.

Ryan is the co-chair of Alpine Legal Services, a non-profit that offers legal guidance and representation to less affluent people involved in civil cases. Alpine Legal Services is working to address people who fall in the gap of making too much money for a Public Defender, but not enough to hire an attorney. Read the full article here.
