Kara De Smet practices family law, helping individuals and families navigate divorce, parenting time, child support, and post-decree matters. Kara brings experience in litigation, alternative dispute resolution, and courtroom advocacy, which allows her to handle everything from collaborative resolutions to high-conflict disputes. She is known for her thoughtful preparation, practical mindset, and ability to craft strategies that align with her clients’ real-world goals—both in and out of the courtroom.
Originally from New Jersey, Kara earned her Bachelor of Science in Legal Studies from Champlain College, then completed her Juris Doctor and Master of Environmental Law & Policy at Vermont Law School. She later made Colorado home, drawn by both the opportunity to serve clients across the state and the lifestyle the mountains offer.
Kara approaches her work with empathy, professionalism, and integrity. She prioritizes clear communication and believes clients are best served when they understand their options and feel supported at every step.
When she’s not in the office, Kara enjoys being outdoors with her dog and taking advantage of everything Colorado has to offer. You’ll often find her skiing, hiking, or camping—recharging in the mountains and bringing that same grounded perspective back to her practice.
